PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION
CONTAINER: SHIPPING, REUSABLE-FOR TANK-
AUTOMOTIVE ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS, DIFFERENTIALS, TRANSFERS,
FINAL DRIVES, DRIVE AXLES, AND SIMILAR ASSEMBLIES
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies
of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers five types of reusable shipping containers with
cover assembly for use in shipment and storage of engines, transmissions, differentials, transfers,
final drives, driving axles, and similar assemblies.
1.2 Classification. Containers are classified by one of the following types as specified
(see 6.2).
Type I
- For items weighing over 45 kilograms (kg) (100 pounds (lb)) but not over
91 kg (200 lb).
Type II
- For items weighing over 91 kg (200 lb) but not over 726 kg (1600 lb).
Type III
- For driving axle assemblies only, weighing not over 726 kg (1600 lb).
Type IV
- For items weighing over 454 kg (1000 lb) but not over 1134 kg (2500 lb).
Type V
- For items weighing over 1134 kg (2500 lb) but not over 3175 kg
(7000 lb).
